Privacy Policy

Shelter Partnership, Inc.

Effective date: 10/15/2026

1. Who We Are and What This Policy Covers

Shelter Partnership is a nonprofit organization located at 1200 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 300, Los Angeles, CA 90017. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit our website, how we use it, who else receives it, and the choices you have.

This policy covers this website only. It does not cover information you give us in person, by phone, or through other channels, and it does not cover other websites that we link to or that appear on our pages.

By using this website, you agree with the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

2. Information We Collect

Information you give us

  • Forms and inquiries. If you submit a form on our site, we receive the details you enter, such as your name, email address, and message.
  • Mailing list. If you sign up for our email list, we receive your email address and any other details you provide at signup. Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link.
  • Donations. Donations are not processed on our website. When you click a donation link, you are taken to a third-party donation platform (see Section 5). That platform collects the information needed to process your gift, and we receive a record of the donation from it.

Information collected automatically

When you visit the site, certain information is collected automatically:

  • Server logs. Our hosting provider, WP Engine, records your IP address, browser type and version, device information, the date and time of your visit, the pages you request, and the page that referred you. WP Engine’s automated security monitoring may also log visitor activity.
  • Cookies and similar technologies. We and our service providers use cookies and similar technologies, described in Section 4.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Respond to your questions and requests
  • Send you the emails you asked to receive
  • Process, record, and acknowledge donations, including sending receipts
  • Keep the site running and secure, and troubleshoot problems
  • Meet our financial, grant reporting, and legal obligations

We do not sell or rent donor or mailing list information, and we do not use your information for advertising.

4. Cookies and Embedded Content

We use a small number of cookies to keep the site working. We do not use analytics tools, and we do not use advertising cookies or tools such as the Meta Pixel. For that reason, the site does not offer an analytics or advertising cookie opt-out. You can still control cookies through your browser, as described below.

Cookies we use

Category Provider Purpose Can you turn it off?
Strictly necessary WordPress Session and site function No. The site cannot work without them.
Embedded content Facebook and Instagram Display of social feeds and share buttons Yes, through your browser settings

Managing cookies

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site from working.

Social media embeds

Our pages may include embedded content from Facebook and Instagram, such as feeds and share buttons. These embeds can set cookies and collect information about you when the page loads, not only when you click on them. That information goes directly to the social platform and is governed by its privacy policy: https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy/.

Third-party tracking across other websites

Facebook and Instagram, through their embedded content, may collect information about your activity on our site and combine it with information from other websites and services you use. We do not control how they use that information. Please review their privacy policy, linked above, and use your browser settings to limit this tracking.

Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” setting. Our site does not currently respond to Do Not Track signals, because there is no common standard for how to treat them. To limit tracking on our site, use the cookie controls described above.

5. Donations and Payment Processing

We use two third-party platforms to accept donations. Each is an independent company with its own privacy policy, and you should review that policy before giving.

  • GiveSmart processes our general monetary donations. It collects your name, contact information, and giving history, and is PCI-DSS and SOC 2 compliant. [Link to GiveSmart’s privacy policy]

Shelter Partnership never receives or stores your full credit card or bank account number. Those details stay with the donation platforms and their payment processors. We receive donor details and donation records from the platforms so we can acknowledge your gift, issue receipts, and keep our financial records.

6. Who We Share Information With

We share information only with the following, and only as needed for the purposes described:

Your submission passes through SMTP2GO, a third-party email delivery service, on its way to our inbox. Our emails to you are also sent through this service. If you are on our mailing list, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or by contacting us.

9. Security

We use reasonable measures to protect information, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections to our site, and by limiting what we store on the website itself. Payment details are handled by PCI-compliant donation platforms and are not stored by us. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

If we learn of a security breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

10. Your Choices and Rights

You can:

  • Manage cookies through your browser settings.
  • Unsubscribe from our emails using the link in any email.
  • Ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it by contacting us using the details in Section 15. We will respond within a reasonable time. We may need to keep certain records, such as donation records, to meet legal and reporting obligations.

For information held by Meta, GiveSmart, Give Lively, Stripe, PayPal, or SMTP2GO, you may also need to contact those companies directly.

11. Third-Party Links and Embedded Content

Our site contains links to other websites and embedded content from other companies. Once you leave our site or interact with embedded content, that company’s privacy policy applies. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites.

12. Children’s Privacy

Our website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

13. California Residents

Under California’s “Shine the Light” law (Civil Code Section 1798.83), California residents may request information about the personal information we disclosed to third parties for their direct marketing purposes during the preceding calendar year. To make a request, contact us using the details in Section 15.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and change the “Last updated” date at the top. If we make significant changes, we will make that clear on the site. Please check this page periodically.
