The pandemic has had incredibly wide-ranging effects. Not only has some of the Shelter Partnership staff been working remotely for most of the year, we’ve had to adopt social distancing measures at our warehouse and indefinitely postpone all volunteer opportunities. To top it off, our annual schedule of events was also impacted.
For the first time in three decades, Shelter Partnership did not host our Annual Dinner this year. What made this especially rough on us? We had an a-m-a-z-i-n-g celebration planned for the Conga Room at L.A. Live. There was going to be dancing!
Like many other organizations, we had to adapt to the new reality and pivot from a live event to an online one. Members of our Board of Directors and Associate Board of Young Professionals stepped up, helping staff work with an event consultant on putting together our first Virtual Event.
On July 30, hundreds of viewers joined us for a live stream event hosted by our friend (and new Board member) Fritz Coleman. The hour-long program included a lot of information about Shelter Partnership’s story and work fighting homelessness, along with hilarious entertainment from Magic Castle performers.
The event was a major success. It can still be viewed on Shelter Partnership’s YouTube channel. We recommend checking it out. Where else can you get your heart strings tugged before seeing a flaming cheeseburger spinning on an umbrella?
Thank you to the members of the Board and Associate Board, along with the performers, for putting together such a memorable show.
